Private Pilot Licence (PPL) Training
Flight Training Requirements:
Private Pilot Licence (PPL) may be completed on it’s own if you are a Recreational Pilot , or as first three stages of our Advanced Commercial Pilot Licence (ACPL) Program for Career-oriented Pilots.
A minimum of 45 hours of flight time must be acquired for the Private Pilot Licence. This flight time consists of a minimum of 17 hours DUAL and 12 hours SOLO flight time. The remainder of this time is completed under the supervision of your flight instructor. During this training, you will gain experience on pre-flight inspection, aircraft ground handling, emergency procedures, take- off, landing, radio procedures, cross country navigation, instrument, and other related exercises. The prerequisite for this program is the Category III Medical administered by a Transport Canada authorized medical examiner, and the minimum age to obtain this license is 17 years. These lessons will train you for your flight test, which is conducted here at Spectrum Airways.
The minimum age to start flight training at Spectrum Airways is 16 years old.
Ground School Requirements:
A minimum of 40 hours of ground school sessions is required for the Private Pilot Licence. Our comprehensive ground school course consists of 16 sessions, taking 3 hours per session, and is normally held in the classroom facilities at the airport. Ground School is not a prerequisite for flight training; however, it is recommended to do both concurrently, if possible. It will provide a better understanding of the flight theory and allow you to practice in the air, what you are learning in the classroom. This course will help you to learn everything that is required for your written test. Ground school kits are available online on the Pilot Shop page.
Examinations:
A Transport Canada Flight Test and Written Examination are required. Spectrum airways has a Flight Examiner on staff, as well as several in the area who are qualified to administer flight tests. The written examination is conducted at a Transport Canada office.
The Private Pilot Licence program does not require approval under the Ontario Career Colleges Act, 2005.
